1.
well, there’s not a real carrot at the end of the stick / and the planet’s still controlled by cowards and pricks / from the middle management, to the White House, to larger corporate entities / I’d found a place to go each day to get bossed around / until the boss kicked me out, ass to the ground / but that’s just one of the two ways that I’ve been feeling free / So I have to thank you for that one good thing / I know that no one else is watching, but at least somebody down here likes me // I was crying at another party last New Year’s Eve / drinking bourbon by the mug and wiping snot on my sleeve / You came to bug me in a borrowed dress, and it was such a relief / I have to thank you for that one good thing / I know that no one else is watching, but somebody down here likes me // I still couldn’t say why / for all that some people care, I might as well die / but you’re smart enough to know what you want, so I guess I’ll buy it // most days, I still want to die, though I try to be brave / I’m sure that if there were a god, I’d still never be saved / but now I see how love can be a raft and also the sea / I have to thank you for that only good thing / I know that no one else could possibly be watching, but somebody down here likes me.
2.
I know better than to call you now, but if I called you, this is what I would say: / you deserve more than whatever you’re receiving from your partner, place of work, or the State / I know it’s too late to wish you were here, but you could pour a splash of wine and think of when our stars aligned / it’s too late to wish you were here, but won’t you think about the time when we could relish being near each other? // I saw that picture of you dressed in white, and I’d like to say it didn’t bug me at all / but you’d know better, so I’m only going to tell you that I took your first name last fall // it’s too late to wish you were here, but you could pour a splash of wine and think of when our stars aligned / it’s too late to wish you were here, but won’t you think about the time when we could relish being near each other? // pour out some wine for better times / we ought to pour ourselves some wine for better times / let’s pour ourselves some wine, because a better time won’t come for a while // it’s been nice not catching up with you; we should not do it again / and in case I don’t get another chance to say it: the pleasure’s been all mine, my ex friend // it’s too late to wish you were here, but you could pour a splash of wine and think of when our stars aligned / it’s too late to wish you were here / but won’t you think about the time when we could relish being near each other? / pour out some wine for when we relished being near each other/ pour out some wine for when we relished being near each other / pour ourselves some wine, because a better time won’t come for a while.
3.
I was in love with a serial killer / oh, I wanted I wanted I wanted the world’s most wanted serial killer / when he walked me to my door and carved me up with his knife / that was the very best day of my whole life / I was in love with the very best serial killer // I was the first one to die in his real-life thriller / all my friends ran and ran, but I kept inching nearer and nearer / now he might have hidden bodies the whole wide world around / but mine’s the last one that I’ll ever know about / he’s my oh my oh my very own serial killer // I’ve got my very own place in his book / I’ve got a permanent stop on his Halloween tour / all my life was a beautiful picture that a genius took, and I could never ever ask for more / than the love of a serial killer // in life, I was in love with a serial killer / oh, I wanted I wanted I wanted the world’s most wanted serial killer / and he might have since forgotten my name / but I will still wait in my tomb just the same / for my one true love: my serial killer.
4.
well, the Buffalo Bills will return to the Super Bowl / the Buffalo Bills, you know they play to win / the Buffalo Bills did it four years in a row / and the Buffalo Bills are gonna do it again // I know what OJ Simpson did / I've seen all of that television too / but OJ Simpson has done so much time, and he's got so little to do with those red, white, and blue uniforms // now, the Buffalo Bills are gonna win the next Super Bowl / I know that they will because I root for them so hard / I fell in love with you in Ithaca, New York / all the way from down here, out by old Harvard Yard // I know this year's team has its flaws / I read the papers just like everybody else / but every team has its Achilles' heels / and as sure as I still love you, those red, white, and blue uniforms will run / in the Buffalo sun / those sweet buffalo in the sun / in the cold Buffalo sun, the Buffalo Bills are number one.
5.
Wrath Month ’22 / July, July: Wrath Month, 2022 / and the Chicago Cubs are sweeping the Red Sox at Wrigley Field / and you have got to be somewhere close to a TV screen // the rain here in Allston-Brighton brings the smell of black mold / and the sunlight in Allston-Brighton makes my skin feel so old / but the Chicago Cubs are sweeping the ground with the Red Sox out at Wrigley Field / and you have got to be somewhere close to a TV screen // this summer, I’m full to the brim with spite / like some insufferable teenage pope sipping down a Diet Sprite / but the Chicago Cubs are sweeping the Red Sox at Wrigley Field / and you have got to be somewhere close to a TV screen / you have got to be somewhere close to a TV screen / you have got to be somewhere close to me.
6.
I wanna go out like Bonnie and Clyde / with my rifle, the loot, and my love by my side / I wanna run, I don’t know how to hide / I wanna go out like Bonnie and Clyde / I need one more big-screen love, then I’ll be ready to die // I wanna live like Harold and Maude / plant trees, pick flowers, and fuck with the law / the car jumps the cliff, and I always applaud / I wanna go out like Harold and Maude / I need one more big-screen love, then I’ll be ready to die // I wanna go out like Bonnie and Clyde / with my love, the bank’s cash, and a gun by my side / when they said you were free, don’t you know that they lied / you’ve got to break free, like Bonnie and Clyde // I need one more big-screen love then I’ll be ready to die.
7.
I wanna burn in Surf City / burn right down in Surf City / watch me run run run run run / cowabunga // I wanna burn in Witch City / watch me burn on down in Witch City / and watch them run run run run run / cowabunga // Phoenix City / we’ll take the train out to Phoenix City / and we can run run run run run run run run run // fly me to the moon / oh please, let it be soon / and I will never ever look at the sun / cowabunga / cowabunga / cowabunga / cowabunga.
